Don Horner

Donald G. Horner, B. Comm.
Chairman of the Board of Directors
Mr. Horner served as the President & CEO of Canadian Urban Limited from 1975 to 2010. Today, he is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. During his years as President and CEO, Mr. Horner brought Canadian Urban to the forefront in financial performance, standards of governance, utilization of research, and the implementation of disciplined risk management and analytical techniques. Canadian Urban operates in all major Canadian markets and has demonstrated competency in residential, retail, industrial and office sectors.

Mr. Horner has over 45 years of experience in the real estate industry. Prior to joining Canadian Urban, Mr. Horner was Vice President, Alberta Region for the Famous Players Development Corporation and previously was Assistant General Manager with Marathon Realty, Prairie Division.

Mr. Horner holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia.

David Lopatka David N. Lopatka, CFA, AACI, MRICS
President and Chief Executive Officer
Since 2002, David has been an active member in the realty advisory industry and has progressed with increasing responsibilities in executive roles. David is responsible for the core functions of the organization to enable it to achieve its long-term vision. Areas of focus include: strategy, finance, board management, raising capital, performance, and asset and property management.

David is a CFA Charterholder and holds the AACI, P.App designation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada as well as the MRICS designation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. David also holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta, and a Diploma of Urban and Land Economics from the University of British Columbia.

David Rostrup David E. Rostrup, BA
Executive Vice President, Western Canada
Mr. Rostrup brings over 40 years experience in real estate brokerage and management. He is responsible for identification, acquisition, and disposition of properties in western Canada.

Prior to joining Canadian Urban in 1989, Mr. Rostrup was a partner in a real estate consulting brokerage and property management company, and has extensive leasing experience.

Mr. Rostrup holds a BA from the University of Alberta.

Dan Burton

Dan Burton
Mr. Burton has over 35 years of experience in the commercial real estate business. As he is a seasoned investment professional, he is well versed in capital markets and private equity asset management. Mr. Burton’s strong analytical and financial background has contributed to many successful ventures.

For 23 years Mr. Burton was President and owner of the real estate advisory company, D.R. Burton & Associates Ltd. that managed pension and investment fund real estate portfolios. Prior to that Mr. Burton was Vice-President of Investment Policy for the Great-West Life Assurance Company.

Mr. Burton holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba

Hay Hamilton Jay Hamilton, CA
Chief Financial Officer
The newest member of our team, Mr. Hamilton, has over 17 years of experience in the financial and professional services industries. With a focus on people, technology and processes, Mr. Hamilton provides a wealth of strategic, operational and financial leadership to Canadian Urban Limited.

Prior to joining Canadian Urban, Mr. Hamilton was with SCM Insurance Services and Bessemer Trust Company. Mr. Hamilton is the current Treasurer and Director of the University of Alberta Golden Bears Football Alumni Association.

Mr. Hamilton is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta.

Linda Tait Linda Tait, MBA
Senior Vice President, National Asset Manager
As a key member of Canadian Urban Limited's Investment Team, Ms. Tait is responsible for the asset management function of CUL, which includes responsibility for strategy, performance analysis, leasing, financing and property management. She also leads the research and analysis department for Canadian Urban Limited's portfolio, and is actively involved in the real estate acquisition program.

Prior to joining CUL in 2004, Ms. Tait was a Senior Account Manager with a Canadian investment manager, and was actively involved with the cash flow modeling leading up to the launch of a Canadian REIT, as well as MD&A reporting and ongoing investment analysis post IPO. Prior to this, Ms. Tait was a Financial Analyst with Oxford Properties and was engaged in cash flow modeling of various joint venture projects.

Ms. Tait received her Masters of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University in 1999, with a dual concentration in Real Property and Finance. Ms. Tait has over 25 years experience in commercial real estate.

Tilda Ferguson Tilda Ferguson
Vice President, Property Management
Ms. Ferguson leads the national property management platform at Canadian Urban. Tilda has a dedicated, experienced and professional team across Canada with services including facilities management, tenant coordination, lease administration and construction management. Ms. Ferguson is leveraging over 35 years of experience in all asset classes including retail, office, industrial and residential.

Sean Demsky Sean Demsky, MSc.Pl.
Vice President, Acquisitions and Dispositions
As a member of our investment team, Mr. Demsky manages an active real estate portfolio and leads a team of highly trained professionals. With 17+ years of commercial real estate experience, he oversees all aspects of the acquisition of new properties and disposition of existing assets. Core responsibilities include: sourcing new deals, contract negotiation, financial underwriting, board and client presentations, and the coordination of the transition process from the purchase or sale of a property to our Asset and Property Management groups.

Before joining Canadian Urban Limited, Mr. Demsky worked as a Senior Real Estate Analyst and Sales Representative with Cushman & Wakefield’s Investment Sales group in Toronto. Prior to this position, he worked in New York City as Vice President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation’s Asset and Property Management Department.

Mr. Demsky holds a Master of Science Degree in Urban and Economic Planning from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of British Columbia. He is also a licensed sales representative in Ontario and an active member of NAIOP and TREB.

Derek Janke Derek Janke, CGA
Senior Associate, Asset Management
Mr. Janke, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from the Finance Department over to Investments and Asset Management.

Mr. Janke started at Canadian Urban in 2000 in the Finance Department. Over the years he has worked in a variety of roles including corporate, residential and commercial property accounting.

In 2013, Mr. Janke received his CGA designation. In 2012 Mr. Janke received his Bachelor of Applied Business Administration – Accounting from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton.
